Osmotherley Branch is an energetic part of the much larger international organisation which is Britain’s leading Service Charity dedicated to supporting the welfare of ex-service personnel and their dependents. Membership is not restricted to ex-servicemen and women. Anyone can join and enjoy the full benefits of membership; all we ask is that you support our aims.
The Branch membership currently stands at 81 but we are always looking for new members to join us and bring new ideas into our organisation. The Branch does not charge an affiliation fee for members; the only fee is the national annual one of £11.
You can join us by contacting the Membership Secretary, Sheila Black on tel: 01609 883193 or simply by turning up at one of our Monthly Meetings in the Queen Catherine.
We hold Branch Meetings each month (except January) on the first Wednesday at 7:30pm in the Queen Catherine Hotel. The actual Meeting takes less than 5 minutes and is followed by bingo and a raffle which are open for all, members and non-members alike. As well as being great fun with the opportunity to win £60-£80 in the “snowball” or a great raffle prize, these evenings generate an income of about £120 on each occasion for the Legion.
The Branch has a full and varied programme of events running throughout the year all of which help raise funds for the Legion’s welfare work. Apart from our Monthly Meetings (see below) we hold lunches, an annual barbeque, a domino drive, outings etc as well as taking part in all the village’s activities such as Summer Games and the Agricultural Show. In addition we are the guardians of remembrance. Each year we organise a local Poppy Appeal Collection assisted by many non-members. We also coordinate the annual parade and service of Remembrance in the village centre. So come and join us having fun fund raising!

For a small village branch we are remarkably successful in our fund raising efforts. In the last 12 months we raised over £5,000 for the annual Poppy Appeal and over £3,000 for the Legion’s Care Home at Lister House in Ripon.
This year we are also looking to raise money to improve recreational facilities at the MoD’s Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court which does such excellent work with severely wounded service personnel.
Recently the Branch has become formally affiliated to Stokesley Detachment of the Army Cadet Force (ACF). We are proud of this relationship which can be described as the past working with the future. The Branch sponsors the Cadets by helping with fund raising and the cadets in their turn help the Branch with such activities as the Poppy Appeal (their street collecting efforts last year raised £1,300!)
